Alberto Alesina is Nathaniel Ropes Professor of Political Economy at Harvard University, where he chaired the Department of Economics from 2003 to 2006. He has headed the NBER Political Economy Program since 2006, and is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Prof. Alesina is a leader in the field of political economy and has published extensively on related topics in the top academic journals. His research focuses on the study of political business cycles, fiscal policy, the process of European integration, stabilization policies in high-inflation countries, and the differences between the economic systems of Europe and the United States.
