Amina Helmi is full professor at the Kapteyn Astronomical Institute of the University of Groningen, the Netherlands. She obtained her PhD from the University of Leiden, after which she held postdoctoral fellowships in Germany and the Netherlands. She has received numerous prizes, including the 2004 Christiaan Huygens and the 2010 Pastoor Schmeits prizes for astronomy.
Helmi has also been awarded a number of prestigious grants, including a VIDI and VICI from the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research’s Talent Scheme, and an ERC Starting Grant from the European Union.
A member of the reputed Young Academy of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), since 2016 she has also belonged to the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities.
