Fabrizio Bernardi is Professor of Sociology at the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED) in Madrid. He received his PhD in Sociology and Social Research from the University of Trento in 1998, before working as an assistant professor at the University of Bielefeld (1998-2001), an associate professor at UNED (2001-2010) and a full professor at the European University Institute (2010-2022). He is a former chair of the European Consortium for Sociological Research (2012-2020) and is currently Editor-in-Chief of European Sociological Review. His research interests lie mainly in social stratification, educational inequalities and social demography. His more recent work focuses on compensatory advantage as an inequality creating mechanism, the geography of social mobility in Europe, and the consequence of parental separation for children’s educational inequalities.
