Hania Zlotnik is a former director of the United Nations Population Division. She is a graduate of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and has a PhD in Statistics and Demography from Princeton University. During her long career in the division, which she joined in 1982, Hania Zlotnik has worked in all major areas of population research, as head of the Mortality and Migration and Population Estimates and Projections sections and Assistant Director in charge of supervising the the work carried out on fertility, mortality and migration. She has edited or written numerous reports published by the United Nations, including studies on international migration and development, trends in international migration, female migration, population estimates and projections of population, population ageing and urbanization trends. She is the author of more than 40 articles that focus on diverse demographic issues addressed from an international perspective.
