Julio Pérez Díaz holds a PhD in Sociology. He has served as a tenured scientist at the Spanish National Research Council (Institute of Economics, Geography and Demography, Center for Humanities and Social Sciences) since 2007, and for the previous 16 years as a researcher at the Center for Demographic Studies and assistant professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). His scientific interests are population policies, demographic ageing and the sociology of old age. He publishes his own website on demography, as a teaching and outreach support tool, where he disseminates his activities and research and provides online access to his publications. These include the book ‘La madurez de masas’, awarded the 2002 La Caixa Foundation Prize, or the chapter “Transformations of the World’s Population: The Demographic Revolution” (in ‘The Routledge International Handbook of Globalization Studies’: Wiley-Blackwell, 2009). In 2005 he edited the Report on the 1999 Survey of Disabilities, Impairments and Health Status for the National Statistics Institute (INE). He recently led the project “The Theory of the Reproductive Revolution” as part of the National R&D and Innovation Plan.
