From September 2006 to August 2009 Timothy Besley was an external member of the Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee. He has also served on the UK’s National Infrastructure Commission since 2015. A Gluskin-Granovsky Fellow of the Institutions, Organizations and Growth Program of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR), he is also a Foreign Honorary Member of the American Economic Association and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is a past president of the European Economic Association (2010) and current president of the International Economic Association, and in 2018 he will take up the presidency of the Econometric Society.
His research interests lie primarily in development economics, public economics and political economy.
