National policies for the protection of old age have been renewed in each EU country in recent times, and will undergo even more varied reforms in the coming years. This is a result of intrinsic faults in the protection systems and the situations of demographic, productive or employment crisis. This study constitutes a contribution to the research Pensiones y prestaciones por desempleo (Pensions and Unemployment Benefits) (Fundación BBV, page 66) presents the current public pension schemes in Europe, the changes underway and guidelines on their probable future.
