Capitalización y crecimiento de la economía murciana,1955-1996
The intensive agriculture in which Murcia is specialized has become the driver of its economic growth. Export growth is also high in the region. The research project shows that GDP growth has been exceptional, and particularly worthy as it coincided with a population growth above the Spanish average; but in recent years there has been a slowdown that requires the region’s economic policy to be reassessed. The reasons for this stagnation are the relative obsolescence of the agricultural infrastructures to ensure exports are competitive, as well as the limited use of satellite industries and the possibilities offered by tourism. The work is part of the framework of collaboration between the BBV Foundation and the Valencian Institute for Economic Research (IVIE) to study the regional Spanish economy.
