This publication prolongs the line of work initiated with an earlier study published by the BBVA Foundation in 2005, Elstock y los servicios del capital en España (1964-2002), in the framework of the joint research programme run for more than a decade with the Valencian Institute of Economic Research (Ivie).It marks a major step forward in regional economic research in Spain, by providing first-time estimates of the capital stocks(gross, net and productive) located in autonomous communities and their provinces drawn up in accordance with the latest methodological recommendations of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

Investment is first broken down into 18 types of assets, with a full itemisation of public infrastructures and the three assets identified as the drivers of economic growth in the nineteen nineties: software, hardware and telecommunications.The book comes with an enlarged documentary base in CD-ROM which offers comprehensive, updated working materials.
