This is a review of the research that has presented positive results on the predictability of stock market returns. Although predicting changes in stock market prices is still very difficult, the 1990s, unlike the previous period, offers more optimistic possibilities with respect to this goal, as more data are available, computers are more powerful, and new statistical techniques have been developed that are described in this study.
