Giovanna
Discover the historic, artistic and stylistic secrets that lie behind the portrait of Giovanna Tornabuoni. The painting’s fascinating past and technique are scrutinized in this app for tablets devoted exclusively to Domenico Ghirlandaio’s famous work, part of the Thyssen-Bornemisza museum collection since 1935.
Inquisitive users will love the Discover section, where a simple swipe across the screen allows you to x-ray the image or to apply infra-red and ultraviolet light to reveal what is hidden below Giovanna’s dress or the original version of her necklace.
For those wishing to delve deeper into the technical aspects, the app includes over fifteen animated clips which show that each detail of the picture, down to the arrangement of its component elements, is there for a purpose.
Videos, images and commentaries complete this superb study of one of the treasures of art history, carried out by the Old Masters and Restoration departments of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum.
The application is the result of a collaboration between the BBVA Foundation and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. “The Program of Applications, Digital Publications and Educational Knowledge“ is a vehicle for the development of multimedia publications that offer the public new experiences, virtual and live, in connection with works and artists from the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum collections, along with a range of educational features and information and communication channels between the museum and its visitors.
This App has been available at the different market places until December 2019.
Further information on the publications and projects developed in the frame of this collaboration is available here.
