La inserción laboral de los egresados universitarios en España 2018

Social Sciences > Economics, Public Policy > Public Economics

The paper analyzes the labor market insertion results of university graduates from data based on Social Security records provided by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (2019).

To achieve this, a labor market insertion indicator has been developed that combines three factors: employment rate, match between education and employment, and wages. This indicator has been calculated for 99 fields of study into which the Spanish Ministry groups the different degrees. Three main conclusions can be drawn from this study:

  1. the lack of relationship between the range of degrees offered by the Spanish universities and labor market insertion rates;
  2. the notable differences that exist in the different degrees in terms of job placement, highlighting the strong results in Health Sciences and the so-called “STEM subjects; and
  3. the over-representation of women in areas with the worst insertion results.

The study also analyzes the differences across regions in the labor market insertion of graduates, although with a much lower level of disaggregation (the regionalized information is only available for five branches of knowledge).
