This is a joint reflection by those who took part as “actors of change” in the modern-day Spanish and Portuguese transitions to democracy on the milestones, influences and parallels between these processes. Thus, from the perspective offered by a period of more than 25 years, the issues dealt with include “Why did Portugal react with its Revolution and Spain with its Transition after so many years of dictatorship in each country?” Or “Did the Carnation Revolution have anything to do with the tense but pacific Spanish Transition to Democracy?” This work includes both speeches by politicians and academics brought together in Lisbon in 1998 by the BBV Foundation and the Fundação Mário Soares, as well as key documents on the Spanish Transition, some already known and published, and others that will be publicly on show for the first time.
