One of the most relevant events of recent years in the financial world has been the extraordinary growth in derivative products. After analyzing the concept, characteristics and trading of these products and providing a synthetic description of their main groups, this study analyzes their advantages and disadvantages, and then deals with the reasons underlying their attraction for intermediaries and end users. The study highlights the need for market practices to be complemented by supervisory measures.
