The recent processes of financial innovation and internationalization that characterize the current trend in the Spanish banking industry, together with the banking crises of the past and present, mean that the discussion on banking policy in Spain continues to be in the news. This study makes an assessment of the guarantee of deposits in Spain through the construction of a variety of rankings by risk, analysis of the design of flexible “à la carte” collateral agreements, and the estimation of the volatility of bank shares.
